NSF International, an independent testing and certification organization, has recently announced that it will join the Non-GMO Project as a technical administrator in early 2014.
This news comes after an earlier announcement by Whole Foods that all GMO-containing products in their stores must be labeled by 2018. Whole Foods' decision was influenced by an increasingly huge consumer demand for GMO-free foods and recent efforts to pass GMO labeling legislation.
The Non-GMO Project Verified seal is one of the fastest growing third-party assurance seals in the country, according to Steven Hoffman, managing director of natural products marketing agency Compass LLC.
