El Salvador bans glyphosate and 52 other chemicals

(http://gmwatch.org) El Salvador, in a move far ahead of countries like the U.S., has voted to ban glyphosate, the pesticide that most GM crops are designed to be grown with, along with 52 other chemicals. This historic vote comes one year after the famous (or infamous) Seralini study, which found that the pesticide and the GM maize engineered to go with it caused severe organ damage, tumor growth, behavioral changes, negative reproductive effects and premature death in rats. RoundUp, the brand name of Monsanto's glyphosate, has been found to be toxic at half the level permitted in EU drinking water. Paraquat and endosulfan are two chemicals that are also on the ban list.
