Modern wheat a "perfect, chronic poison," doctor says

Posted: December 3, 2012

(CBS News) Modern wheat is a "perfect, chronic poison," according to Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who has published a book all about the world's most popular grain.

Davis said that the wheat we eat these days isn't the wheat your grandma had: "It's an 18-inch tall plant created by genetic research in the '60s and '70s," he said on "CBS This Morning." "This thing has many new features nobody told you about, such as there's a new protein in this thing called gliadin. It's not gluten. I'm not addressing people with gluten sensitivities and celiac disease. I'm talking about everybody else because everybody else is susceptible to the gliadin protein that is an opiate. This thing binds into the opiate receptors in your brain and in most people stimulates appetite, such that we consume 440 more calories per day, 365 days per year."

Asked if the farming industry could change back to the grain it formerly produced, Davis said it could, but it would not be economically feasible because it yields less per acre. However, Davis said a movement has begun with people turning away from wheat - and dropping substantial weight.

Full hospitals creating potential danger, analysis says

Posted: December 3, 2012

Hospitals are "full to bursting" in England, creating a potentially dangerous environment for patients, an analysis by experts suggests.

Hospitals should run at about 85% capacity to give them room to cope with surges in demand, and figures show the NHS average hovering around that mark.

But analysts Dr Foster said the figure was skewed by quiet periods and rose higher if they were stripped out.

Ministers denied the NHS is overcrowded and said it could manage demand peaks.

The Destruction of America: Brought to You By JP Morgan Chase

Posted: November 30, 2012

A JP Morgan Chase ad that was in heavy rotation over the Thanksgiving holiday that is meant to sell the idea that the mega-bank is the backbone of America, when it reality, it is part of an enormous fraud.

Instead, the predatory institution, along with the other 'Too Big to Fail' banks that received bailouts, have used corporate welfare to sellout the nation, ship jobs overseas, reap profits on money lent from the Federal Reserve at zero interest, while saddling huge debts upon the people through the larger derivatives scheme. The failure of the banks to lend to small businesses and ordinary Americans has been blamed for further stalling the economic crisis created by over-leveraging and derivatives on the global market.

JP Morgan Chase is at the heart of Rothschild and Rockefeller monetary interests; no wonder that its CEO Jamie Dimon sits on the New York Federal Reserve board of directors, while wealthy elites like Warren Buffett have called for him to replace Tim Geithner (another Fed insider) at the Treasury Department.

Police officer brutally attacks homeless man, slams him into wall

Posted: November 30, 2012

SARASOTA --Authorities say a Sarasota police officer has been suspended after a video surfaced that showed him slamming a homeless man into a wall during an arrest.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune (http://bit.ly/WynbNl ) reports Sarasota City Manager Tom Barwin viewed the video on Thursday and deemed it was "clearly excessive force."

The video was captured Oct. 6 by a security camera at the downtown bus depot. The newspaper reports the video showed officer Derrick Gilbert pushing Roger Alan Fields into the wall, splitting open his head.

Barwin called Police Chief Mikel Hollaway and told him to suspend the officer. Gilbert was placed on administrative leave.

Elderly mother stuck with dead son's student loans

Posted: November 30, 2012

(NEW YORK) -- Three years after her son's death, a 61-year-old Michigan woman is still on the hook for his student loans -- and a Change.org petition she started now has nearly 200,000 signatures demanding the companies forgive the loans and change their policies.

Jermaine Edwards went to college to study music production, and his mother, Ella Edwards, agreed to cosign his student loans to help him attend school. However, Jermaine died of natural causes in 2009 at age 24, leaving his mother responsible for the loans.

"That's when American Education Services (AES) and National Collegiate Trust (NCT) turned my son's dream into a nightmare for me and the two year old son he left behind," Edwards wrote in the petition.

The Myth of a GMO-Free European Union

Posted: November 29, 2012

Witness today's decision by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) that declares Seralini's groundbreaking study, which clearly documents that GM corn causes cancer in lab rats, fails to meet "acceptable scientific standards".

It is ludicrous to suggest such a carefully crafted study (reported by Gaia Health here) is inadequate. The study was done to the same kind of design that Monsanto-funded studies were, with major differences that made it far more rigorous than has ever been demanded of industry for approval of GM products.

So what are the EFSA's complaints about Seralini's study? They claim serious defects in the study's design and methodology, specifically:

Unclear study objectives, the low number of rats used in each treatment group, a lack of detail on the feed and treatment formulation, key information missing on the statistical methods employed and incomplete endpoint reporting.

Law Says Don't List Chemicals If It Hurts Corporate Profits

Posted: November 29, 2012

Chemical manufacturers' trade secrets take precedence over safety in the United States. That's not mere speculation. It's the law. The 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) supposedly requires chemical companies to inform the government of any new chemicals they're planning to market. There is, though, a loophole that's bigger than the regulation itself. If a corporation claims that disclosure might harm profits, then they're excused from the requirement!

Since the TSCA came into effect, a full two-thirds of all new chemicals marketed have been stamped as trade secrets. So, we have no idea what's in products. We cannot find out any information of any sort about these chemicals, including what products they're in, how they could harm our health, or what hazards they might produce, such as explosions or gassing out into the air we breathe.

Only a handful of EPA employees have access to the TSCA list. It is illegal for them to provide information on it to anyone, including healthcare workers for emergencies, legal claims, or any other situation you might imagine.

GMO Alert! Organic foods can get infected with GMOs

Posted: November 29, 2012

Organic foods are supposed to be safe for consumption. They, unlike GMOs, do not usher any disease into human life. Organic foods are recognizable with a stamp placed on the packets which clearly mentions that the foods are organic in nature. But there is an increasing concern about the authenticity of organic foods due to the escalating cultivation and prevalence of GMOs. Those foods that are cultivated naturally without the help of pesticides and other chemicals are termed as organic foods. But under the current scenario, there is always a possibility of organic foods getting contaminated with GMOs though they are not directly cultivated with GMOs.

http://www.naturalnews.com

The U.S.Food and Drug Administration is being led by former top officials of big biotech companies, so there is little hope that they will take the necessary steps to stop the influence of GMOs on organic foods. Natural News reports that organic foods are classified into three types depending on the amount of organic ingredients present in the foods. The foods that have 70 percent or 90 percent of organic ingredients are complemented with 30 percent and five percent of GMOs respectively.

Fast food workers demand $15 an hour

Posted: November 29, 2012

Workers at some fast food restaurants in the New York City area walked off the job on Thursday.

A large group gathered outside a McDonald's on Madison and 40th St. in Manhattan demanding higher wages and the approval of a workers union.

"They're giving us $7.25 an hour, so many of my co-workers are living on food stamps. You can't live on that in this city," a protester told Good Day NY.

The workers who say they don't make enough to put food on the table for their families would like an increase in their hourly pay to $15.

Man makes his own 'Backscatter' airport body scanner from Ebay parts

Posted: November 28, 2012

Thousands of travelers will be walking into a body scanner and putting their hands up as they make their way through airport security this holiday season. A tech tinkerer recently completed a homemade version of a backscatter machine using parts purchased on eBay.

Ben Krasnow, as seen from his self-description on Google+, has previously built components for MRI machines. When he's not working on "top secret projects" at Valve, a video game company, he could probably be found in his home workshop - his favorite place to be, he wrote.

"After work, I spend time on many different types of projects that usually involve circuit design, machining, material selection, and general fabrication/hacking," he wrote on Google+.

His test subject for the backscatter machine? An ugly Christmas sweater-wearing turkey, in the raw.

Human waste in NY drinking water and power bills for no power!

Posted: November 28, 2012

Forget about the "fiscal cliff," people are suffering in NY and New Jersey. Why does the U.S. Government wait until after predictable disasters occur to begin the process of protecting people from death and disease? Although Hurricane Sandy was not preventable, much of the suffering could have been quelled and ended in a responsible manner, instead the water supply is polluted, more than it used to be, homeowners are homeless, and worst of all, the power companies are charging everyone for a month of power they never provided, then saying they'll compensate a little bit each month from now on to ease up on people's pockets! What??? So kick them while they're down and give them a box of band-aids later? This is insanity!

http://www.cnn.com

Hurricane Sandy may have already passed through New York and New Jersey, but its aftermath is still a very present reality in New YorkHarbor, where an unimpeded flow of human waste continues to flood this busy, urban waterway. Recent reports indicate that the nation's fifth largest water treatment plant in Newark is still dumping some 240 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into the harbor every single day, which continues to create a very serious health hazard throughout the region.

'Welfare Nation': The Sad Truth

Posted: November 28, 2012

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich during the Republican presidential primaries often referred to President Barack Obama as the "food stamp president," a charge that was met with piercing and outraged cries of "racism!"

"Over here you have a policy which, with Reagan and me as speaker, created millions of jobs - it's called paychecks. Over here you have the most successful food stamp president in American history, Barack Obama," Gingrich said.

Supposed "racist dog whistles" aside, it should be noted that Gingrich is not the first person to voice concern over the expansion of our so-called "welfare nation."

But is this concern warranted? That is, is the growth of the welfare state really something we need to worry about?

30 Years of Breast Screening: 1.3 Million Wrongly Treated

Posted: November 28, 2012

The breast cancer industry's holy grail (that mammography is the primary weapon in the war against breast cancer) has been disproved. In fact, mammography appears to have CREATED 1.3 million cases of breast cancer in the U.S. population that were not there.

A disturbing new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine is bringing mainstream attention to the possibility that mammography has caused far more harm than good in the millions of women who have employed it over the past 30 years as their primary strategy in the fight against breast cancer.[i]

Titled "Effect of Three Decades of Screening Mammography on Breast-Cancer Incidence," researchers estimated that among women younger than 40 years of age, breast cancer was overdiagnosed, i.e. "tumors were detected on screening that would never have led to clinical symptoms," in 1.3 million U.S. women over the past 30 years. In 2008, alone, "breast cancer was overdiagnosed in more than 70,000 women; this accounted for 31% of all breast cancers diagnosed."

Nutrition Labels Are a Bad Joke, Designed to Mislead, Not to Inform

Posted: November 28, 2012

There's been a great deal of focus on nutrition labels lately. In the EU, the question was whether to have the "more complicated" type or ones that look like traffic lights with stop and go symbols, supposedly designed to be easier for the public to understand. And now, McDonald's has gotten into the act by providing nutrition information about their products.

All of this misses the real issue. Foods are made of ingredients, some natural and some chemical, and those ingredients come from different sources. What we need to know is what's actually in our foods, not some governmental pseudo-health or public relations agency's take on it.

There are many ways to look at nutrition, but what could be more important than what's in the foods we buy, where it comes from, and how it's grown?

Texans going wild with 'secession fever,' bumper stickers everywhere

Posted: November 28, 2012

Move over, "Everything is bigger in Texas." The Lone Star state has a new favorite bumper sticker and it's a simple one-worder: "Secede." Yes, it appears that "secession fever," as some columnists are calling it, has taken over the red-leaning state following the post-election petitions - and sales of the stickers are just one sign. Among others, a perennial GOP candidate named Larry Scott Kilgore has announced he's running for governor and will legally change his name to Larry SECEDE Kilgore - yes, with "secede" in all-caps. His web page also declares, "Secession! All other issues can be dealt with later."

Washington farmers fight back, battling drones and Agenda 21

Posted: November 27, 2012

The WSFB is a voluntary, grassroots advocacy organization representing the social and economic interests of local farm and ranch families.

Every year the WSFB's volunteer leaders from across the state get together to discuss issues and adopt new policy. The WSFB is unique in that its members, delegates from each of the 25 county Farm Bureaus, adopt the policies, ranging from land use to fiscal issues.

This year's convention was especially exciting due to the passage of new policy, set to put a barrier against the overreach of the federal government and even foreign ones.

"This year we indeed adopted a policy opposing all aspects of UN Agenda 21 as well as a policy opposing the use of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) to spy on farms without express permission from the landowner," said John Stuhlmiller, Director of Government Relations.

Marijuana growers go 'green,' switch to solar power

Posted: November 27, 2012

Authorities say that illegal marijuana growers have increasingly been going "green" and using solar panels as a power source to stay off of the grid and avoid detection by law enforcement officials, according to The Associated Press.

Solar panels may be expensive, but they allow pot growers to avoid consuming massive amounts of power from nearby power companies which can tip off authorities to their activities.

"We're definitely seeing more and more of it," New Mexico State Police Lt. Robert McDonald told the AP. "I think since the cartels down in Mexico are now having such a hard time getting their product up here that some growers are trying to grow it themselves and to (stop) us from finding them by using solar. It definitely makes it harder."

GM industry funds UK parliamentary group to promote GM

Posted: November 27, 2012

GeneWatch UK warned today that the GM industry is funding a major push to return GM crops to return GM crops to Britain by promoting misleading claims in parliament that they are needed to "feed the world". George Freeman MP's All-Party Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology in Agriculture is being used by Monsanto and other GM companies to lobby on behalf of their business interests.

Funders of the APPG include the industry body the Agricultural Biotechnology Council (ABC), which represents the major GM crop companies (BASF, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, Pioneer (DuPont), Monsanto and Syngenta). Other funders include the National Farmers Union (NFU) and the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (ADHB) (1). The funding is provided via Front Foot Communications, which is run by the Secretary of SCIMAC, a grouping of industry organisations along the UK farm supply chain, established in 1998 to support the introduction of GM crops in the UK.

In July 2011 the Prime Minister and the Science Minister David Willetts appointed Freeman as Government Life Science Advisor and he has been a vocal advocate of GM crops.

U.S. skies may soon be open to drones

Posted: November 27, 2012

Unmanned drones are cheaper than manned aircraft and can be used in a variety of ways, such as assessing environmental threats and damage from natural disaster, tracking criminals trying to escape on a highway, and assessing wildfires; according to an FAA prediction, 30,000 drones could be flying in the United States in less than twenty years; lawmakers and privacy advocates want the use of these drones more tightly regulated.

The U.S. government is attempting to open up the sky for drone use all over the nation. The sixty members House of Representatives' Drone Caucus have pushed the agenda, and over the last four years caucus members have raised almost $8 million in drone-related campaign contributions.

The Houston Chronicle reports that theFederal Aviation Administration(FAA) is swamped with applications from police departments, universities, private corporations, and even celebrity tabloid site TMZ seeking to use a wide range of drones for everything from law enforcement to weather mapping to stalking celebrities.
